*NOTES FROM TOM

There are a lot of great things going on at the station. First off I’d like to thank anyone who made a pledge during our ?End of Fiscal Year? fundraising drive. It’s only through your support that we can continue to bring you great radio that is otherwise unheard on the dial today.
We’ve been posting lots of ideas and message through our MySpace.com blog. You can check out the station’s profile at http://myspace.com/wbjb. We actually gave away tickets to Nada Surf through the blog about 2 weeks ago. You never know what your going to read.
You may have heard some messages on the air mentioning our HD Radio broadcast as well. Everyone here is very excited with our HD Radio broadcast. There aren’t too many radios available out there but we encourage you to ask your electronics retailer about HD Radio so we can change that. The folks at HDRadio.com are also offering a $25 mail-in rebate if you buy a HD Radio on the rebate list before July 31st. You can download the .pdf using this URL (http://www.hdradio.com/i/hdradio_rebate_certificate.pdf).

Finally don’t forget to come down to Riverside Gardens Park in Red Bank on Fridays this summer for Brookdale’s Songwriters in the Park sponsored by K. Hovnanian. Check out ?Mark Your Calenders? for a listing of dates and performers. See you Friday.

* ALBUM OF THE MONTH

Gomez  How We Operate  ATO/BMG

British band Gomez has just released ?How We Operate,? it’s sixth album since 1998. Produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Catherine Wheel, Belly, Del Amitri, Echo & The Bunnymen, China Crisis, Jimmy Eat World and many more) it’s full of ingenious little hooks, fine singing, poetics and to-the-point lyrics, and cool guitars. It’s not often easy to immediately identify a band that has three lead singers, but you know a Gomez track when you hear one. And for the last several weeks you have been hearing the title track of this album on 90.5 The NIGHT. After eight years and six albums maybe you can call it a ?Gomez Groove.? Live they can come off as a Beatles-inspired jam band…meaning that they can (and do) jam, but there’s always the base of a simple, classically crafted pop song. Other stand-out tracks would include ?See The World,? ?Hamoa Beach,? ?Girlshapedlovedrug,? ?Charlie Patton Songs,? ?All Too Much,? and ?Cry On Demand.?

June 21 they’ll be headlining at Webster Hall in NYC, and then June 27 & 28 at the Tweeter Center in Camden opening up for the Dave Matthews Band. www.gomeztheband.com

HEADLINES FROM PUBLIC NEWSROOM:

Medicare Overbilling

NEWARK, N.J. (2006-06-16) New Jersey’s largest health-care provider
will pay 265 million dollars to settle federal charges that it cheated Medicare out of more than half a billion dollars. Prosecutors announced their deal with Saint Barnabas Health Care System yesterday. It settles claims that Saint Barnabas — which operates nine hospitals and a behavioral treatment center in New
Jersey — inflated charges for seriously ill patients between October 1995 and August 2003. It involves a Medicare program designed to increase
reimbursements to hospitals that care for people with medical complications. Saint Barnabas didn’t admit any wrongdoing under the agreement. But it must accept an outside monitor who will supervise its
Medicare billings for the next six years.

Corzine-Poll

TRENTON, N.J. (2006-06-16) A new poll out this morning finds New
Jersey voters continue to oppose Governor Corzine’s plan to boost the state’s sales tax. Sixty percent of the respondents in the Quinnipiac University poll oppose the plan to increase the sales tax from six percent to seven percent to help close a projected budget deficit for next fiscal year. And 70 percent doubt he’ll reduce property taxes. But despite those findings, Corzine’s approval rating is inching up. It’s now 39 percent, slightly better than the 35 percent he
received in a previous Quinnipiac poll conduced in late April. And while 41 percent of respondents in the new poll disapprove of his performance, that’s down from 42 percent in the previous survey. The poll surveyed one-thousand and 99 registered voters from June seventh to 13th. It has a sampling error margin of plus or minus three percent.
