*NOTES FROM TOM

Over the past few Fridays we’ve been down at Riverside Gardens Park in Red Bank for the ?Brookdale Songwriters in the Park Series?, brought to you by K. Hovnanian. Come down this Friday for the last “Songwriters in the Park” performance with Rhett Miller. Rhett Miller will end the series on August 4th.

Here at the station we’re always trying to find ways to serve Brookdale and our listeners better. We have some additional programming that will hit the air over the next couple of months. Speaking of which, we’re also planning on making some additions to our web offerings as well. We don’t want to ruin the surprise so you’ll have to keep tuned in to hear about them.

Brookdale Public Radio Welcomes Summer Student Workers

We’d like to welcome all of the students who’ve come in this summer to learn about radio and also help out the station. They’ve helped us with promotions out at our live events, done voice overs for community and Brookdale events, produced announcements for us, become music DJs, produced local news peices that aired in our local news segments, and made the station a much more fun place to be a part of.

We’d like to thank: Stu, Kristen, Lex, Erika, Crystal, Leah, Matt, and Jared for giving time every week to help us out…THANKS!!!

* ALBUM OF THE MONTH

Michael Franti & Spearhead – Yell Fire! – Anti-/Epitaph

Michael Franti is arguably the most important songwriter in America today. A couple of years ago he decided to ?walk his talk? by traveling to several war torn areas of the Middle East to see, first hand, the human cost of war. All he brought was his guitar. And a filmmaker. And probably a pen. Franti’s journey through actual red-zone areas of Baghdad, Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip are documented on his new album (with his band Spearhead) ?Yell Fire!? and the documentary DVD ?I Know I’m Not Alone: A Musician’s Journey Through War In the Middle East.? Both are released on July 25th. You’ve been hearing track 1 on the album ?Time To Go Home? on The NIGHT in recent weeks…and the album just gets better from there. Other stellar tracks include ?Yell Fire,? ?I Know I’m Not Alone,? ?East To the West,? ?Hello Bonjour,? ?Hey Now Now,? and ?What I’ve Seen? … to name but a few. If you ever get the chance to see Spearhead play live…do it. It’s an enlightening experience!
. As is listening to ?Yell Fire!? and watching ?I Know I’m Not Alone.? Unfortunately, on their current tour, there don’t seem to be any area shows. Check in at spearheadvibrations.com to find out more

Public NewsRoom

LEBANON
Civilians fled battered villages in southern Lebanon today after Israel said it would halt its air strikes. The Jewish state, however, has pledged to step up its offensive to root out Hizbollah guerrillas. For more on the conflict in the Middle East, visit our NewsRoom online at http://90.5TheNIGHT.org.

LANDIS
American Tour de France winner Floyd Landis, who tested positive for testosterone on his way to victory in cycling’s showpiece event, should find out as soon as today if the counter-analysis he has requested confirms the result. If the positive test is confirmed, Landis would be stripped of his Tour victory and Oscar Pereiro of Spain, who finished second overall in this month’s race, would be declared the winner. For updates, visit our NewsRoom online at http://90.5TheNIGHT.org.
