*NOTES FROM TOM
It’s the end of the summer. We had so much fun at all of the local music festivals like The Red Bank Jazz & Blues Festival, Belmar Seafood Festival, Comcast Jazz in the Park, Brookdale’s Songwriters in the Park present by K. Hovnanian, and the Clearwater Festival.
While we were having all of that fun on the Shore we were also very hard at work building some new offerings for you. You may have heard one of them already: our traffic reports. There are a few more things up our sleeves. Just make sure to check your inbox for some announcements over the coming weeks. You won’t be disappointed in what we have in store.

* ALBUM OF THE MONTH
THE DAMNWELLS  Air Stereo  Zoe/Rounder
The Damnwells have finally released the follow-up album to their brilliant ?Bastards Of The Beat? of 2004. New label, new songs, new home addresses…still brilliant. Of the current generation of American rock bands, The Damnwells just might be the best. Lead singer and lyricist Alex Dezen has one of those voices that can make anything sound somewhat heartbreaking and he often writes the words that make it so. David Chernis is one of the most inventive, so far unknown, rock guitarists out there. And the rhythm section of bassist Ted Hudson and drummer Steven Terry secure the bottom and the beat. As well as adding some wonderful harmonies. The new album ?Air Stereo? has some outright rockers like ‘Accidental Man,’ ‘Sell The Lie.’ and ‘I Am A Leaver.’ For the heartbreakers check out ‘Golden Days,’ ‘Louisville,’ ‘Heartbreaklist,’ and ‘Kung Fu Grip Kiss.’ There’s also a sense of humor invoked in the tracks ‘You Don’t Have To Like Me To Love Me (Tonight)’ and ‘I’ve Got You’ which!
very discreetly name checks several great 70’s and 80’s power ballads.
They seem to be on the road endlessly, so visit either thedamnwells.com or myspace.com/thedamnwells to find out where they are.

LOCAL TRAFFIC REPORTS
A few weeks ago we started airing local traffic reports in the morning and afternoon to help you avoid any traffic messes on your commute. Now we are your one stop shop for international, national, and local news as well as local traffic and weather. There’s no reason to go anywhere else on your dial.

END OF SUMMER GOODBYES
Here at Brookdale Public Radio we pride ourselves on working with students at Brookdale Community College. This summer we’ve had lots of students help us out with every aspect of the station. Some students are still staying around to help us out and others are leaving us. Now that it’s the end of summer we have to wish a few of them farewell and good luck as they head off to new schools or full-time jobs.
Thanks so much to Lex, Erika, Crystal, Leah, Matt, and Jared for all of your help. You don’t know how much you’ve helped us over this past summer.
All the Best,
Brookdale Public Radio Staff
