THE JAM ROOM IS OPEN

On September 1st we launched a new program stream called “Jam Room”. “Jam Room” is a collection of music from artists in the jam band sub-genre of rock, which was born from bands such as Cream, Santana, and the Allman Brothers. The grandfathers of the genre are the Grateful Dead. Until their recent retirement Phish carried the torch of the jam bands after Jerry Garcia’s death. The Bonnaroo Music Festival has become the mecca of bands and fans from around the country to celebrate this style of music every year.

Some of the bands you can hear on “Jam Room” include: The Grateful Dead, Phish, Dave Matthews, The Allman Brothers Band, Cream, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, The North Mississippi All-Stars, Widedspread Panic, Primus, Rusted Root, moe., String Cheese Incident, Blues Traveler, Keller Williams, Medeski Martin and Wood, Galactic,, Bela Fleck, and the Disco Bisuits.

NOTES FROM TOM

Another Fall semester is upon us at Brookdale. We’ve revamped the radio classes to get our student even more involved with the station. Having more help is always a good thing here (that goes for membership too!). Although you may hear a few more student voices on the air here keep in mind that behind the scenes there are over 50 students helping out the station in way or another. Those folks are helping us be a better radio station…and remember it’s all for you.

Another Fall also means another Fall Membership Drive at the station. We’ve marked off November 1st as the start date of our Fall Drive. Remember, you don’t have to wait until then to support us. You can always become a member by using our secure server at http://90.5TheNIGHT.org. While your there you can check out all of the Member Rewards partners who will give you discounts at their business. All you have to do it show them your membership card.

ALBUM OF THE MONTH

Pete Yorn Nightcrawler Columbia/Red Ink

Montville New Jersey native Pete Yorn is back with his first new album in three years. Following his debut, ?Music For the Morning After?, and then Day I Forgot, the new one is called Nightcrawler. More challenging and musically complex than its predecessors, it is probably his most fully realized album to date. Even though he previewed the album by doing an acoustic tour earlier this year, the album has him (as usual) taking on most of the vocal and instrumental duties. Though he did invite special guests like Dave Grohl (who plays drums on the first single ‘For Us’) and a couple of the Dixie Chicks to lend their talents. Standout tracks include ‘For Us,’ ‘Alive,’ ‘Maybe I’m Right,’ ‘Policies,’ ‘The Man,’ ‘Undercover,’ and a fine version of the late Warren Zevon’s ‘Splendid Isolation.’

Check up on him at peteyorn.com and myspace.com/peteyorn.
