Second Jersey City Arrested for D.W.I.

   Another off-duty Jersey City police officer is accused of drunken driving. Officer Thomas Porter was arrested after a minor motor vehicle accident in a restaurant parking lot in his hometown of Toms River.Police say no one was injured when the 36-year-old’s vehicle hit another. The 18-year member of the force remains on the job pending a review.The arrest came less than a week after another off-duty Jersey City cop was accused of being drunk and hitting a car on the Pulaski Highway.Charges against Officer Kevin Freibott were upgraded to aggravated manslaughter yesterday after a toddler injured in the crash died.
Property Tax Cut Legislation Heads to Senate

  Legislation to cut property taxes for most New Jerseyans by 20 percent is headed for the state Senate. The Assembly passed the bill yesterday and agreed to cap future tax increases at four percent. However, Governor Corzine is warning the increases will exceed the cap until public employee benefits are changed.
I.D. Theft Victims Get Helping Hand

   TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – I-D theft victims in New Jersey are getting a break. A new law says companies can neither deny credit nor cut credit limits for identity theft victims. Creditors who violate the law will face fines.
Governor Vetos Medicaid Fraud Bill

 Governor Corzine has conditionally vetoed a bill designed to combat suspected Medicaid fraud. Lawmakers wanted to spend three (m) million dollars on a special prosecutor. The governor says it’s a job for the inspector general’s office.
