FORMER SOCIAL DISTORTION BASSIST DIES

PLACENTIA, Calif. (AP) – The former bassist for Social Distortion has died while riding a bicycle that collided with a big rig. The Orange County, California, Register reports Brent Liles was riding a small dirt bike Thursday morning through a crosswalk. A truck with a trailer turned on a green light and hit Liles. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has not been cited, but the accident is still being investigated. Liles joined Social Distortion in 1981 and played on the “Mommy’s Little Monster” album. He and drummer Derek O’Brien left the band in the middle of a New Year’s Eve gig in 1983. Social Distortion singer Mike Ness could not be reached for comment. Liles was 43.
