Getaway day for Labor Day weekend starts on the highways for many heading to the Jersey shore and the weather is expected to be near perfect.
The Turnpike Authority is projecting more than 3 million vehicles will use the toll road between today and Tuesday. More than 5.7 million are expected on the Garden State Parkway.
NJ Transit says extra outbound trains from New York will operate on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley and Morris & Essex lines. There also will be additional vehicles on  more than two dozen bus routes from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Port Authority officials are projecting a 3 percent rise in traffic for Hudson River bridges and tunnels.
Air travelers should pack some patience. Some 500,000 travelers are expected to pass through Newark Liberty International Airport over the holiday weekend.
The Port Authority says the regions three major airports will handle 7% more passengers than Labor Day weekend last year.
