New AC Mayor Also Has Issues

The scandal-plagued gambling resort of Atlantic City wakes up today with a new leader.
City Council President William “Speedy” Marsh became acting mayor yesterday when Robert Levy resigned. Levy’s attorney says he left office due to “multiple health problems” and a pending federal probe into claims that Levy embellished his Army service in Vietnam. The decision also came shortly after Levy disappeared for two weeks.
Marsh, though, has his own complicated history at City Hall.
He’s been ordered by the state Supreme Court to repay more than $363,000 he got from the city in 2002.
It was part of a settlement over claims that he and former Mayor Lorenzo Langford were wrongfully terminated from city jobs due to political retaliation by opponents.
