More legal problems for several reputed mobsters in New Jersey.
Nearly two dozen people were named in a sweeping indictment made public yesterday, including 41-year-old Andrew Merola of East Hanover.
Merola — who authorities say is one of the highest ranking members of the Gambino crime family in the Garden State — faces more than 20 counts. That includes allegations of running an illegal gambling ring, racketeering and extortion.
Also picked up in the sweep were 68-year-old Charles Muccigrosso of Newark, whom the FBI also described as a high-ranking Gambino member, and 56-year-old Martin Taccetta of East Hanover, a reputed Lucchese crime family member who was granted a retrial in state court over a brutal 1980s murder.
