A Republican state senator wants Governor Corzine to drop talk of potential toll increases.
Sean Kean’s remarks came just hours after the governor reiterated he would soon unveil a new plan to pay for transportation improvements.
Speaking yesterday on WOR radio, Corzine said that would come after a state budget is adopted. But he didn’t provide further details.
Kean, a lawmaker from Monmouth County who sits on the Senate’s Transportation Committee, says Corzine should be able to find $1 billion for transportation improvements within his $33 billion budget proposal.
Kean also called on Corzine to completely drop the idea of a gas tax increase.
Corzine has said he continues to be hesitant about increasing the state’s 14.5 cent per gallon gas tax, which is the nation’s third lowest.
