About 100 supporters of a New Jersey man who is seeking custody of his son marked the fifth anniversary of the boy being taken to Brazil with a candlelight vigil.
David Goldman’s wife, Bruna Bianchi, took Sean to her native Brazil in 2004. She remarried and died in childbirth there last year.
Goldman was not at the vigil in Red Bank Tuesday night. But his parents attended. His mother, Ellie, says she’s moved by the support her son is receiving from around the world.
David Goldman says his wife kidnapped his son. But the family of Bianchi’s new husband says 9-year-old Sean is better off staying with him.
A federal court this month agreed with Goldman and the Brazilian Supreme Court last week refused to overturn the ruling.
But the case remains tied up in Brazil’s courts.
