HELENA, Mont. (AP) - You want to know what before you hire me? A Montana city has had second thoughts about a policy that, at first, seemed to be a violation of privacy. Bozeman, Montana has scrapped its request that those seeking government jobs turn over their user names and passwords to Internet social networking and Web groups. A statement from the city says the practice “appears to have exceeded that which is acceptable to our community.” The Montana arm of the American Civil Liberties Union was among those questioning the legality of the policy. An official with the privacy group compared it to the city asking job applicants to let their bosses rummage through their love letters and family photos.
