A man who admitted helping the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah by sending broadcasts from a television station has been sentenced in New York City.

Saleh Elahwal was sentenced Tuesday to a year and five months in prison by Manhattan federal judge Richard Berman. He had pleaded guilty to providing material support to Hezbollah.

The sentencing came two months after the main defendant in the case was sentenced to more than five years in prison.

Elahwal, of Matawan, N.J., admitted accepting thousands of dollars to provide satellite transmission services to the station Al Manar between September 2005 and August 2006.

Hezbollah has fought Israel since the early 1980s. Israel and the U.S. consider it a terrorist organization.
