New Jersey’s Fort Monmouth has a new commanding general who may be the last to lead the Army post.
Maj. Gen. Randolph Strong is the 12th commander of the CECOM Lifecyle Management Command. The West Point graduate recently was director for Architecture, Operations, Networks and Space in the office of the U.S. Army Chief Information Officer.
The former signal officer replaces Maj. Gen. Dennis Via. Via has been nominated by President Barack Obama for promotion to lieutenant general.
The fort’s research and development command, which employs 5,000, is due to close in 2011. Its mission will be transferred to Maryland’s Aberdeen Proving Ground.
