FISHKILL, N.Y. (AP) - Pete Seeger is giving a piece of his banjo to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame instead of selling it on eBay. The Poughkeepsie Journal reports Seeger had put the head of his banjo on eBay after he learned it needed to be replaced. The banjo head is like a drum head and it bears the words, “This Machine Surrounds Hate and Forces It To Surrender.” His intention was to donate the proceeds to a charity that plants trees in Haiti. Seeger says he’ll donate the banjo head to the Rock Hall instead because he did not want to make money off it. Bidding went as high as $6,400 before Seeger pulled the auction. Seeger says he will funnel money to the charity another way.
