A Brick man accused of murdering his drug dealer and setting the body ablaze is claiming he faced certain death and had no choice but to use deadly force against an Ocean Grove man. Defense attorney John Koufos entered a plea of not guilty to murder on behalf of his client Gregory David Elk. Elk’s live-in girlfriend, Susan Ann Vasikonis, also entered a plea of not guilty. Elk and Vasikonis are charged with the Feb. 22 murder of Eric Pagan, of Ocean Grove; among other charges. Authorities have said Elk and Vasikonis were trying to rob Pagan of drugs before Pagan was fatally struck on the head with a hammer in the home that Elk shared with Vasikonis. The pair remains in the Ocean County Jail, with bail set for each at $1 million.
