NJ officials tout effort that broke carjack rings

Law enforcement officials say 42 people have been charged in a rash of carjackings that had terrorized the city of Newark around the turn of the year. Leaders from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies announced Monday that a multiagency task force assembled to attack the carjacking problem has significantly reduced the number of incidents.   There were 69 carjackings in December in Essex County, most of them in Newark.
