Pedestrians account for one of every five traffic-related deaths in N.J., says study

Pedestrians accounted for one out of every five traffic-related deaths in New Jersey over the past decade, and victims disproportionately were African-American, Hispanic or elderly, according to a report released yesterday.  The study by Transportation for America, a national advocacy group based in Washington, said just over 1,500 pedestrians were killed in traffic incidents from 2000 to 2009 — making up 21 percent of total traffic deaths for the period.
