Local Michagan Official Steamed Over Veggie Garden
OAK PARK, Mich. (AP) — Julie Bass is standing up for her veggies. The suburban Detroit woman faces possible jail time for having a front-yard vegetable garden. Bass was cited for violating city rules about landscaping in Oak Park. Bass says she’ll fight the ticket at a hearing scheduled for later this month. Even though the citation carries a maximum 93-day jail sentence, the Oak Park mayor promises Bass won’t be put behind bars. Bass tells local media — The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press — the city landscaping regs require decorative but useless gardens.
