“Eat Your Peas” Comment Good For Industry

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Pea growers don’t have a beef with President Barack Obama.

The president recently said the nation needs to “eat our peas” — referring to the congressional battle over raising the national debt ceiling. Farmers in the Pacific Northwest are glad the prez is talking peas — even if it’s in a slightly negative context. The Capital Press reports pea consumption is declining in the U.S. Oregon Washington Pea Growers Association manager Mike Shelby says the president’s comment is good for the industry.
