HABcore
HABcore, a non-profit organization located in Monmouth County, takes the lives of people in need and transforms them by providing living arrangements and services. HABcore provides a permanent home-like setting for the residents along with services to help them create a plan for a better future life. Achieving self-sufficiency while in a supportive and structured environment is the main goal of this organization.
The group was founded in September 1988 after many volunteers at the Lunchbreak Organization in Red Bank realized many of the people needed help on a whole new level. Their housing situation was inadequate for a healthy and productive lifestyle. HABcore was founded to provide affordable living for people who lived in the same region as Red Bank’s Lunchbreak. HABcore received the name from the first initials of the last names of three men who died in Red Bank in the 80s.
HABcore has been successful because of the commitment from the trustees. From performing many services including laundry, to working on many of the committees that make HABcore possible such as Finance and Residential Life, the trustees have really made HABcore flourish. HABcore’s success has allowed it to grow tremendously. The organization jumped in the number of residents from five to ninety six. Also, they now have two boarding houses, apartment rent subsidy, management programs, and three graduate supportive houses.
