Ex-Toms River mayor pleads guilty to tax evasion
The former mayor of an Ocean County town has admitted evading taxes on hundreds of thousands of dollars he got from an insurance broker over several years. Carmine Inteso Jr. of Toms River entered his plea Monday in U.S. District Court in Trenton. He faces up to five years in prison when he’s sentenced in April. Inteso was arrested in July at New York’s Kennedy airport, following his return from Afghanistan. Federal prosecutors have said Inteso allegedly took a contractor job in Afghanistan after learning he was the target of the tax investigation.
