Bono, Brian Williams join NJ storm relief effort

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — U2 frontman Bono and NBC news anchor Brian Williams are the newest board members of the charity launched by Gov. Chris Christie and his wife to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Their appointments were announced Tuesday by First Lady Mary Pat Christie, who chairs the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. They join several other celebrities board members including Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Kelly Ripa and Bill Bradley

To date, the fund has raised more than $32 million from more than 22,000 donors around the globe.

Known for his humanitarian efforts, Bono said he was inspired by the work of volunteers after the superstorm hit in late October. Williams, who grew up at the Jersey Shore, says he’s proud to be part of the relief effort.
