NATALIE MAINES PLANS SOLO RECORD

NEW YORK (AP) — Natalie Maines of The Dixie Chicks is releasing her first solo record. She will put out “Mother” on May 7. The title track is a cover of the Pink Floyd song “Mother,” and that’s a clue to the sound of the album. Maines says it’s very different music from The Dixie Chicks and it has more of a rock edge. Singer-songwriter Ben Harper co-produced the album. One of the songs, on “Come Cryin’ to Me,” was co-written with fellow Dixie Chicks Martie Maguire and Emily Robison. Maines says they wrote that song for their “Taking the Long Way” album but it was too rock.
