LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — State Sen. Barbara Buono has received solid support for her gubernatorial campaign from one of the New Jersey’s rising Democratic stars.
Buono toured Newark’s Ironbound district Tuesday afternoon with city Mayor Cory Booker.
Booker said he has a good relationship with Republican Gov. Chris Christie and likes him personally, but believes Buono is the right choice for governor.
Buono and Booker visited a law office, real estate office, tuxedo shop and diner in the largely Portuguese neighborhood. Buono said Christie’s policies have harmed residents of New Jersey’s cities.
A recent poll showed Christie with a 36-percentage-point lead over Buono. But Booker predicted the gubernatorial race would be close by October.
