Ex-yeshiva teacher faces sex assault charges in NJ

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A former Yeshiva teacher and camp counselor is on trial on charges that he sexually abusing a former camper.

Ocean County prosecutors say Rabbi Yosef Kolko abused a boy from 2007 to 2009, beginning when the alleged victim was 11.

Thirty-nine-year-old Kolko met the boy at a camp run by a religious school.

The boy’s father testified that his son told him about the abuse in February 2009.

The father said he wanted to deal with the issue through a rabbinical court. He also wanted Kolko to stop working with kids and go to therapy.

The father said the court didn’t deal with the issues appropriately and Kolko was still working with children. So he went to the civil authorities in July 2009.

Kolko denies the allegations.
