Cooling Centers Open in Belmar

BELMAR (APP) — As a result of this week’s heat wave, the borough has opened a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. this week in the community room at 601 Main St., according to a borough news release.

The borough strongly encourages any residents lacking air conditioning to enjoy some at the center, as well as ice, water and games, as this week’s temperatures are supposed to reach the high 90s, according to the release.

Borough residents should remember to drink plenty of water, avoid exposure to the sun, and remember that daily temperatures reach their highs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children and senior citizens are the most vulnerable to heat stroke, according to the release.

For more information about the center, call Kelly Williams at 732-681-3700, ext. 218.
