Lifeguard needed to be rescued at Jersey shore

BRADLEY BEACH, N.J. (AP) — Lifeguards had to rescue one of their own after he was hit by a wave at the Jersey shore.

The 24-year-old was on a paddle board at Second Avenue beach in Bradley Beach when the wave hit Thursday.

Police Chief Len Guida tells the Asbury Park Press another lifeguard saw him face-down in the water and retrieved him.

Guida says the lifeguard was unconscious when he was pulled from the surf but quickly gained consciousness.

The lifeguard was taken to a hospital with head and neck injuries. His condition is not known.

Officials have not released the man’s name.
