PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — Sen. Barbara Buono has received support from several Latino elected leaders who say the Democrat would be a better governor than Gov. Chris Christie.
Passaic Mayor Alex Blanco and Sen. Nellie Pou are among those who joined Buono at a park in Paterson on Monday.
Blanco calls Buono “the right choice” for governor because, he says, “she cares and knows our needs.”
Assemblyman Ruben Ramos says Buono would address education and public safety issues of big concern to Latinos.
Like Buono, Christie has actively courted Latinos, who make up 18 percent of New Jersey’s population.
Both politicians have received endorsements from Latino political groups.
Christie also has opened a campaign office in Paterson and produced a Spanish-language commercial before the June primary.
