Officials: NJ K-9 that went missing is found safe

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A police dog who went missing during a training exercise in southern New Jersey has been found safe.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department announced Tuesday that Jack, a year-old brown Chesapeake Bay retriever, had been found. But they did not immediately disclose further details, including where he was found.

The dog had last been seen on Monday during a scent training exercise at Allaire State Park, near the border of Wall and Howell townships. It was found around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Department officials say they will consider using GPS technology in the future to help track dogs in their K-9 unit.
