SEA GIRT, N.J. (AP) — Two people involved in a beach replenishment survey ended up in the frigid Atlantic Ocean when their boat overturned in waters near the New Jersey National Guard Training Center.
Sea Girt police tell the Asbury Park Press (http://on.app.com/1iGkM2D) that the boat started taking on water shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday, when a wave hit its stern. Another wave then caused the vessel to overturn, but another worker who happened to be nearby drove her equipment into the surf and used it to pull out the boat.
The boat’s two crew members were in the water for about 10 minutes and were suffering from hypothermia when they were rescued. Authorities did not disclose their names, but said both should fully recover.
Authorities said no fuel or oil leaked from the boat.
