NJ travel conditions improve as temperatures rise

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Weather-weary New Jerseyans are getting a respite from the frozen precipitation and bitter cold that has caused travel headaches in recent days.

Forecasters say the freezing rain that left most roadways slick and slippery on Sunday morning had finally changed over to plain rain in most areas by late Sunday afternoon, and temperatures were expected to keep rising into the high 40s during the evening hours.

The warmer temperatures will help melt a lot of the snow and ice spawned by a major storm that hit the state late Thursday and brought bitter cold to the region.

But the relief will be short-lived.

Forecasters say the deep freeze will return Monday night, when lows will drop to the single digits and wind chills could hit 15 degrees below zero.
