Former Christie legal aide to run NJ ethics panel

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A lawyer who worked in Gov. Chris Christie’s administration has been named to the top spot on the state Ethics Commission in a job that gives her the authority to decide whether ethics complaints are investigated or thrown out.

Tuesday night’s closed-door vote to make Susana Guerrero the commission’s executive director comes as the Republican governor’s office is enmeshed in a political retribution scandal.

A Christie spokesman says Guerrero is widely respected and was approved in a unanimous bipartisan vote. Her salary was not disclosed.

Guerrero worked in Christie’s counsel’s office and previously worked at the same law firm where he and his closest adviser once worked.

A legislative panel and the U.S. Attorney’s office are investigating claims that top Christie aides created traffic jams to punish a political adversary.
