Mom says she was target, too in NJ tot creek death

FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) — The mother of a 2-year-old girl whose body was found in a New Jersey creek, still strapped into her car seat, says she fears the girl’s father would have killed all three of them had she gone along too.

Imani Benton testified Thursday in the trial of Arthur Morgan III. A jailhouse letter Morgan sent her after his arrest said he wished she had gone with him and 2-year-old Tierra Morgan-Glover to the movies the day their daughter died.

The letter says the plan that November 2011 day was “to go as a family.” Benton testified she believes that meant Morgan would have killed her, the girl, and himself.

Tierra was found submerged in a park creek. Morgan’s lawyer indicated his client would not deny responsibility for the girl’s death.
