Police: Snow shoveling offer led to sexual assault

KEANSBURG, N.J. (AP) — Aggravated sexual assault charges have been filed against a New Jersey man who allegedly attacked a woman he had offered to pay for snow shoveling.

Keansburg police tell the Asbury Park Press that 22-year-old Daequan Johnson also faces kidnapping, robbery and weapons charges stemming from the Jan. 2 attack. He was arrested at the Monmouth County Jail, where he’s being held on an unrelated weapons charge, and his bail was set at $1.05 million cash.

Police say the woman was helping a neighbor shovel snow when Johnson approached her with his offer.

The two then walked down the street and, as they passed a vacant house, Johnson allegedly grabbed the woman and dragged her inside. Johnson then allegedly threatened the woman with a handgun and sexually assaulted her.
