PLUMSTEAD, N.J. – According to the Ocean County Health Department, a tanker overturned in Plumstead yesterday afternoon.
The truck was carrying a sodium hypochlorite solution which is the active ingredient in household bleach, this afternoon. Several agencies including the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection responded. The Ocean County Road Department delivered a load of sand to decrease the likelihood of further impact of the spilled chemicals on nearby waterways.
At this time, there are no known threats to human safety. The area will be completely investigated and evaluated once the area has been cleared. Any further updates will be posted on the Ocean County Health Department website OCHD.org.
