Woman faces theft charge over online gambling debt

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — State police have charged a New Jersey woman who claimed someone stole her identity and opened an online gambling account in her name, racking up nearly $10,000 in gambling and banking fees.

Diana Zolla of Jackson Township was charged with theft by deception following a three-month investigation. It was not known if she has retained an attorney, and a telephone number for Zolla could not be located Monday.

State police say the 31-year-old Zolla claimed someone had used her maiden name to create the account. She said the $9,565 debt associated with it did not belong to her.

But a review of banking, online gaming, and internet service provider records by state police detectives determined that Zolla was responsible for creating the account.
