New Jersey town hit by Sandy mourns firefighter

UNION BEACH, N.J. (AP) — A broken electrical wire may have touched off a fire that claimed the life of a firefighter at the Jersey shore.

Investigators still have not determined what caused Sunday’s fire in Union Beach.

But the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office says it cannot rule out a broken wire in an electrical feed running into the building.

Robert Meyer died from a heart attack while fighting the blaze. He lost his own home in Superstorm Sandy, and had just moved into a rebuilt home last week.

Meyer was a member of Union Hose Fire Co. #1 in Union Beach.
