Officer struck by car while directing traffic

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a police officer who was struck by a car while directing traffic on a central New Jersey roadway is expected to recover from his injuries.

The Middletown Township officer was struck Monday morning by a driver who fled the scene. The driver was stopped a short time later in nearby Red Bank and turned over to Middletown authorities.

The officer’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, but further details were not disclosed.
