Coast Guard comes to aid of distressed kayaker

PORT MONMOUTH, N.J. (AP) — The Coast Guard has come to the aid of a man whose kayak capsized in waters off central New Jersey.

The man was near Port Monmouth when they kayak filled with water and became unstable on Tuesday. He used his cell phone to call 911, and rescue crews from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook soon located him.

The kayaker was wearing a lifejacket and clinging to his kayak when he was found. A rescue boat crewmember threw him a heaving line to pull him away from shoal water toward the Coast Guard boat.

Once in the boat, crewmembers determined that he didn’t need medical assistance. His name was not released.
