TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Thousands of homes and businesses are without power as severe thunderstorms roar across New Jersey.
Forecasters say the storms containing heavy rains and strong winds will likely continue until early Wednesday. Some street flooding was occurring in many areas, but no major damage had occurred by Tuesday night.
Atlantic City Electric says 11,970 customers were waiting to be restored. Jersey Central Power and Light reported 3,172 customers were without power, while 2,371 PSE&G customers had no service.
The storms came one day after a similar round of storms hit the state.
It initially was feared that that a tornado had touched down in Burlington County on Monday night. But an assessment team determined that a straight line wind was responsible for downing trees and power lines.
