NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is heading to Iowa on Thursday for his most significant out-of-state trip yet as he weighs a run for president in 2016. But it won’t be his only trip this summer.
Christie plans to visit 14 states in July and August alone. Just this month he’s spent time in Idaho and Tennessee. After Iowa, he plans to head to Connecticut, Colorado, Illinois and New Hampshire.
Christie has been crisscrossing the country to bolster fellow Republicans as chair of the Republican Governors Association. His schedule is packed with stops in swing and early-voting states, giving him the opportunity to make inroads with fundraisers, party leaders and activists who will be crucial to the nomination if he runs.
