NEW YORK (AP) — John Degnan has taken over as the chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The Port Authority’s board of commissioners on Wednesday formally approved the former New Jersey attorney general to head the bistate agency.
Degnan replaces David Samson, who resigned in March. Samson has been the focus of criminal investigations into Port Authority contracts with companies connected to his law firm.
The Port Authority has been under heightened scrutiny since it was revealed that two staffers were behind apparently politically motivated lane closures at the George Washington Bridge last fall.
Degnan’s first official act Wednesday was to change the arrangement of the furniture in the board room, so the executive and deputy executive director faced the public instead of sitting with their backs to them.
