SEA BRIGHT, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie says there’s no point in him making a trip to the border while he’s in Mexico next week, despite criticizing the president for not doing the same.
The Republican governor had hit President Barack Obama last month for failing to make the trip to witness the influx of minors entering the country illegally while he was on a Texas fundraising trip.
Christie said Thursday his situation is different because he’s not the president and doesn’t have responsibility for border security.
The potential 2016 candidate dismissed the comparison as “silliness” and asked what he would do if he did go to the border. He jokingly asked whether he would send the New Jersey National Guard.
