Schools closed for police standoff with barricaded suspect

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Officials have closed schools in Gloucester Township because of a standoff with a suspect barricaded in a home who is firing at police officers.

The police chief on Thursday says an armored rescue vehicle has been struck numerous times with bullets with officers inside.

Police responded to reports of shots fired on Hampshire Road on Wednesday night and the incident turned into a barricade situation.

Authorities evacuated nearby residents and told others to shelter in place.

There are no reports of injuries.

The Black Horse Pike Regional School District also is closed.
