Wind-whipped fire destroys 3 homes near Garden State Parkway

ABERDEEN, N.J. (AP) — Powerful wind gusts caused flames to spread and destroyed three homes near the Garden State Parkway in Aberdeen.

Police Capt. Al Geyer tells the Asbury Park Press the fire was reported around 11:30 a.m. Thursday and was brought under control nearly two hours later. Geyer says a chimney and rubble are all that remain of the home where the fire broke out. A neighboring home is a charred partial shell and the third was heavily gutted. Geyer says one resident was treated for minor injuries. The others got out safely. The cause is under investigation.
