Jeffrey Gaines – Promise Of Passion

Jeffrey Gaines returns with a brand new album, his first studio release since “Toward The Sun”. Since his debut album in 1992, Gaines has been a vital and electrifying force in music, capable of dazzling audiences worldwide with just his own voice and acoustic guitar. On his new project, “Alright”, he takes that innate gift as an individual and combines it with the undeniable musicianship of some of the best players on the planet. Pete Thomas & Davey Faragher, of Elvis Costello’s group The Imposters, provide the foundation as the rhythm section, and Val McCallum, known for his stellar guitar work with everyone from Jackson Browne to Lucinda Williams, plays guitar. Val, Pete and Davey are also collectively known as Jackshit, and their live performances are legendary affairs. That chemistry is brought to the fore on this new album in exciting ways.

Helmed by producer/singer-songwriter Chris Price, the resulting collection is called “Alright”. 10 songs spanning a variety of sounds and scenes, held together by Jeffrey’s gifts as a singer, melodicist and lyricist, and performed with the kind of fervor that can only be generated by a group of musicians playing in the room together. The entirety of the backing tracks was recorded in a marathon 3-day session in August 2017, and the immediacy is apparent from the first notes. Songs like “Feel Alright” and “Frowned Upon” showcase an artist working at the peak of his powers, surrounded by a crack band that props up the tracks with deeply complimentary playing.

GRAMMY-Award winning, multiplatinum-selling artists Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite will collaborate once again for their new album No Mercy in This Land, due out March 30, 2018.

No Mercy in This Land is the first of new music from the pair since the 2013 release of their collaborative album Get Up!, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Blues Albums Chart and won a GRAMMY Award in 2014 for “Best Blues Album.” A musical expression of the kinship between the two, the album recounts both Ben and Charlie’s personal stories and adds to the sonic history of American struggle and survival.

“Charlie Musselwhite is that very rare and hallowed place where blues past, present and future collide,” says Ben about his collaborator and friend. “He transforms notes into emotions that feel both hauntingly familiar and brand new, as if hearing them for the first time every time. He is a living legend whose harmonica playing should be beamed into outer space to search for other life forms.”

“On stage or in the studio – working with Ben Harper holds the same excitement I experienced working with Chicago blues legends back in the day,” says Charlie. “I think it is safe to say that Ben has reinvented the Blues in a great way: playing modern while preserving the feel. I am honored and privileged to be a participant in this project.”
