Rail bridge OK’d to seek fed funds; tunnel doesn’t make cut

NEW YORK (AP) — A long-delayed project to build a new rail bridge between Newark and New York has received an upgrade from federal transportation officials that will qualify it for key federal funding. The new ratings were released late Monday as part of President Trump’s budget proposal. A larger project to build a new rail tunnel into New York remained stalled as federal officials gave it a low rating over a funding dispute. New Jersey and New York have feuded with federal officials over how the tunnel project will be paid for.
