COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is courting supporters in South Carolina as he lays the groundwork for a potential presidential campaign.
Christie traveled to the early-voting state on Wednesday and attended events for Gov. Nikki Haley’s inauguration as well as a meet-and-greet event.
His message to those in attendance was simple: Stay tuned.
The trip comes as Christie’s team is in the early stages of putting together a political action committee that can begin raising and spending money.
That’s according to several Republican donors who are being aggressively courted and spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss Christie’s internal moves.
They say that the former executive director of the Republican Governors Association, Phil Cox, is helping that effort.
