VWS Presents National Book Award Finalist, Poet, and Memoirist Carolyn Forche

April 14 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM EDT

The Dr. Carl Calendar Visiting Writers Series National Book Award Finalist, Poet, and Memoirist Carolyn Forche
Poet, teacher, and activist Carolyn Forché has witnessed, thought about, and put into poetry some of the most devastating events of twentieth-century world history. Author of six award-winning collections of poems, a memoir, and numerous non-fiction books, Forché is perhaps best-known for coining the term “poetry of witness.”

About her recent memoir What You Have Heard Is True: “In this searing, vital memoir, Carolyn Forché at last reveals the dark stories behind her famous early poems: she brings alive the brutality, complexity and idealism of El Salvador in the late 1970s, a time of revolution that echoes all too painfully in the present.” – Claire Messud
